Some clients my be experiencing problems accessing their web site at present. MyDomain.com one of the world’s largest ICANN-accredited domain registrars, has had a catastrophic failure of their DNS systems. This is effecting a number of our clients (along with millions of others). At this time we know that the company is working to restore normal service as fast as possible, however they have not published any indication of how long this might take. Increasingly our clients are receiving emails asking if they would mind publishing a few “articles” or pages on their web site on behalf of a third party. The email usually starts:
“I’m interested in publishing some bespoke related content on yourwebsite.com on behalf of one of our clients. We’d pay up to £95 per month for up to three articles linked to from your homepage.”
So, what they want is a page/article which would be written by them, hosted as part of your site. The pages would be linked from your homepage, would be about insurance/finance or whatever and would usually carry a link or two outbound to some big company. Read the rest of this entry »

Last week we received a very surprising communication from a company called Getty Images. They wrote to inform us that some of the images we were using on our site were copyright to them.
This came as a shock to us as the images had been provided by a third party in good faith. We immediately removed the offending images and replaced them with images that we could confirm were not copyright.
However, the shock of realising we were using copyright images was massively outweighed by the demand for retrospective licence payments totalling over £9000! We immediately tried to contact Getty but only got an answer phone. We then searched the web for information and found (to our surprise) that there were hundreds of others in the same situation.
